Aside from being social, rabbits are known to be very intelligent creatures. Therefore, they can be easily trained to learn some tricks. They are even often opted as pets.

Sad to say, many pet owners fail to train their fluffy pals the right way as they use the wrong techniques and methods. At the end of the day, they realize they have already spent a lot of time without seeing progress in their efforts.

So, if you do want to start training your bunnies, make sure you do it right at the very beginning by following these easy tips listed below:

Understand the Behavior of the Rabbit

Because rabbits are very smart, they can easily and eagerly respond to incentives. Thus, if you ever yell at them, do not expect them to cooperate. On the other hand, if you use reward system properly, they would react positively. Although toys are great motivators, their favorite foods will also suffice.

Also, rabbits are often referred to as prey animals. Thus, if they feel threatened or scared, they would normally run away and look for a safer place to hide, oftentimes, in their hutches. If they show this kind of behavior, you have to look for other ways to make them feel comfortable with you.

Learn How Rabbits Use their Senses

Unlike any other animals, the senses of rabbits are very much different. They don’t usually see properly because their eyes are positioned far apart on their heads. This only means, they can see better when things are on their side or at a far distance.

In order to detect something, bunnies will use their whiskers. With that being said, you will want to put the rewards under their mouth or nose for fast detection. You also have to understand that these animals would want to see or smell you before they will allow you to touch them. Through this, they can verify whether you are a danger or not.

Plan Carefully

Before you take any extra measures, always remember that starting simple will go a long way. Hence, you need to carefully plan everything that you want your rabbit to do. As much as possible, you have to ensure all tasks are realistic and attainable. Every time your bunny completes a task, you can slowly give them rewards. As your pet rabbit’s activities progress, they will become more confident about themselves.

As the owner, you cannot expect your rabbit to follow your commands every time. Even if you have already trained them, there are instances when they do not want to socialize and follow orders. And if this happens, do not get mad at them. As long as they respond most of the time, there is nothing to worry about.
